A New World

Well, we've done it again. My family and I are on another adventure.

We've joined a new spin-off of Kanakuk Ministries called Ahava Ministries. This new ministry is actually the Kanakuk Colorado camp (now called Camp Kivu) - and run pretty much the same as it has for the last several years.

I've been preparing for this type of ministry for the last several years without knowing exactly where it would be or how it would eventually play out.

This particular opportunity arose in my sphere quite suddenly. And it, like every new venture, involves significant risk.

Risk of ministry failure - risk of interpersonal incompatibilities - risk of emotional harm to my family. But it, like every new venture worth looking at - also involves the opportunity for significant reward.

Reward including possible ministry success, possible strong new interpersonal relationships and the strengthening of my family.

And finally - the most important reward of all - the opportunity to use our gifts, skills and life lessons to extend the Kingdom of God on the planet.

So we evaluated it with all the scrutiny the limitations of time and our capabilities would allow. The rewards appeared to outweigh the risks - so here we go!

I've felt a compulsion for the last several years to devote myself to this end. This narrowing of focus has become so acute that I find myself increasingly estranged from the popular controlling stories of our culture. Financial excess, pop culture, newer and newer toys - bleh.

And although we've created and run businesses for years - this non-profit outdoor ministry deal is completely new to us. Please pray for my family as we try to get our bearings as quickly as possible during this transition. We want to provide maximum benefit to this ministry.

Stay tuned for updates on what's going on with this thing - it's gonna be a wild ride.

Father, thank you for new opportunities to serve your Kingdom purposes in the world. Give us strength and wisdom to do and to be precisely what's needed - to fulfill the purpose for which we were made.
